India : Doorway to a monastery, Ladakh
The doors of Tibetan monasteries are a brightly colored lot. The door itself is usually painted red and sports a hollow, brass knob that serves as a knocker by which visitors can announce themselves. Brightly colored scarves (well actually, most of the scarves I've seen were quite sooty, what with the emmisions of the butter lamps that are kept burning inside the monasteries) are usually tied to the knocker.
It was immediately evident to me that this door had a new coat of paint, as did the knocker. In place of the (usually sooty) scarves was a bright white piece of rope. I carefully composed the shot, deliberately including in the frame a bit of the edges of the door (painted yellow and black) for variation.
