Ubiquitous in symbolic activities of Tibetan Buddhism, the Dorje & Drilbu are always used together in ceremonies and are the primary symbolic tools of compassion and wisdom.
The Drilbu is a bronze, copper, or silver bell used by Tibetan Buddhist monks during ceremonies. Always held in the left hand, the shaking of the hand bell produces a piercing sound that is supposed to represent ultimate transcendental wisdom.
The Dorje is a small scepter held in the right hand by Tibetan lamas during ceremonies. The dorje represents the vajra (diamond thunderbolt) - capable of destroying everything, but indestructible in itself. As such, it represents the thunderbolt of Buddhist enlightenment - sudden, total and indestrunctible.
